Summary:

We all know that factory farming is unsustainable and harmful for the environment and animal welfare. With rampant inflation leading to a cost-of-living crisis that will hit poorer communities the hardest, the temptation to turn to cheap, low quality and less ethically sourced food will grow. But, as we seek ways to create purposeful businesses and lives that have a positive impact, the implications of factory farming need to be brought to the forefront of any discussion on the economics of food.

In this digital session, Mikaela Saccoccio, Executive Director of Farmed Animal Funders, will talk us through how you can reduce animal suffering without changing your diet.

In this session we’ll explore:

  • Why factory farming is harmful to the environment, human health, and animal welfare
  • How you can reduce animal suffering without changing your diet
  • Which approaches seem most effective to fighting factory farming
  • What recent wins give us hope for the future of food

Speaker:

Mikaela Saccoccio is the Executive Director of Farmed Animal Funders, a donor network whose members donate USD $250,000 or more annually to charitable initiatives fighting factory farming. Mikaela is also a Fund Manager of the Effective Altruism Animal Welfare Fund, which moves $3 million annually to new, neglected, or best-in-class opportunities to reduce animal suffering, and an advisor to the Founders Pledge animal welfare fund.
