Do You Need a YPO Chapter Near You, or Does a UK Forum Work Better?
YPO is organised around chapters, and your chapter decides most of what membership feels like day to day. That makes geography a bigger part of the decision than the brochure suggests.

Yes, in practice you need a chapter you can get to, because YPO's forum, events and chapter dues all sit at chapter level. YPO describes its Europe region as more than 3,500 members across 84 chapters, but it does not publish a UK chapter list on ypo.org, so you have to ask which chapter would take you and where it meets. A UK forum such as Helm places you in a group of six to eight matched on stage rather than postcode, meeting ten times a year, with 400+ members across the UK.
How YPO is actually organised
YPO is a global organisation of more than 30,000 members in 142 countries, split into 14 regions. Europe is one region. Within each region sit the chapters, and the chapter is the unit you join.
That matters because three things happen at chapter level. Your forum, the small confidential group at the heart of membership, is formed from chapter members. Your local events calendar is run by the chapter. And chapter dues, which third parties consistently describe as separate from YPO's global dues, are set by the chapter. So two members of YPO in different cities can have quite different experiences and pay quite different amounts.
YPO's regions page gives Europe as more than 3,500 chief executives across 84 chapters. It does not break that down by country, and we could not find a published list of UK chapters on ypo.org. If you want to know which chapter you would join and where its forums meet, you have to ask YPO directly.
Why that is a bigger deal outside London
A founder in London can assume there is a chapter within reach. A founder in Leeds, Bristol, Glasgow or Belfast should not assume anything. The chapter may exist, it may meet somewhere that is a long drive, or the nearest one may be in a city you rarely visit.
The forum is where the value sits and forums meet in person, typically monthly. If yours meets 150 miles away, you will either skip meetings or spend a day each month travelling. Neither is what you paid for. Ask before you apply where the forum you would join actually meets and how often.
Which chapter would I be placed in? Where and how often does its forum meet? How many members does it have and what size of business do they run? What are the chapter dues, separate from global dues? And when did the chapter last take a new forum member? The answers will tell you more than the global figures do.
What a UK forum does differently
Helm is not organised by chapter. Forums of six to eight are matched on three things: stage, meaning roughly where you are in the arc of the business, sector adjacency, close enough that the context translates but far enough that nobody is a competitor, and the decisions you are currently facing. Geography is a practical constraint on where the group meets, but it is not the organising principle.
Each Forum meets ten times a year and is always chaired by a founder who has already exited a business. Around the Forum sits a programme of more than 160 events a year across London and the UK hubs, member messaging between meetings, and curated introductions. Membership runs across the UK with more than 400 members.
For a founder outside London the practical question changes. It stops being "is there a chapter near me" and becomes "is there a Forum at my stage with a space in it". Ask on the selection call and you will get a straight answer, including if the answer is not yet.
Where YPO's structure is the better one
If you travel a lot for the business, the chapter model becomes an asset rather than a constraint. Land in Madrid or Singapore and there is a chapter, and YPO's global network is genuinely the best in the world at that. A UK forum gives you depth in one market. It does not give you a room in 142 countries, and if that is what your business needs, YPO is the right choice and you should apply.
YPO also has scale on its side in the big cities. A large London chapter can offer more events and more members than any UK-only network. If you are London-based, under 45 and clear the size tests, that is a real advantage.

The travel arithmetic
Work it out honestly before you join anything. A forum that meets monthly and is two hours away costs you a full working day each time, twelve days a year, before the meeting itself. A group that meets ten times a year within an hour costs you roughly half that. Neither number is a reason to choose one room over another on its own, but a membership you attend three times because of the diary is the expensive option whatever it cost.
The same test applies to Helm. If the Forum at your stage meets in London and you are in Aberdeen, say so on the call and ask what the realistic options are. We would rather tell you the fit is wrong than take a membership you will not use.
Where Helm is wrong for you
If your business is international and you need peers in other countries, a UK network is not a substitute for YPO and we will not pretend it is. And if you have not raised £3m, are not turning over £3m and have not exited, you are not yet eligible for Helm, wherever you live.
