Why you cannot find the number

Search for YPO's fees and you will find plenty of figures on comparison sites, blogs and forums. Follow any of them back to YPO and the trail stops. The membership requirements page is thorough about who qualifies and silent about what qualifying costs.

There is a reasonable explanation. Costs vary by chapter and by region, so a single published number would be wrong for most people reading it. There is also a less reasonable one, which is that a price you have to ask for is a price you are more likely to accept after you have been told you are the sort of person who qualifies.

We are not going to print a YPO fee we cannot source to YPO. We have watched a competitor's price get quoted around the industry for years without anyone checking it, and we would rather leave a gap than fill it with something we cannot stand behind.

What third parties consistently describe

Without vouching for any of the amounts, the structure reported across multiple sites is consistent and worth understanding, because the structure is the part that catches people out.

• An initiation fee, paid once on joining.
• Annual global dues, paid to YPO centrally.
• Local chapter dues, paid separately and set by the chapter, so they vary depending on where you join.

Three components rather than one. If you ask what YPO costs and get an answer that covers only the global dues, you have not been given the whole picture.

The costs that sit outside the dues

Every peer organisation of this kind runs events, and most of them charge for the bigger ones separately. Retreats, international events and forum trips are commonly extra, sometimes substantially. None of that is hidden exactly, it is just not part of the number anyone quotes you.

Then there is the cost that nobody invoices for. A forum commitment is meaningful time, usually several hours a month plus travel. For a founder whose day rate is the real constraint, that is often larger than the fee.

What Helm costs

£495 to join, then £495 a month. That is £6,435 plus VAT in your first year and £5,940 a year after that.

It covers your Forum, every event in the calendar, the roundtable dinners, the special guest dinners, the quarterly socials and the introductions. There is no premium tier, no chapter dues, no sponsor selling to you and nothing else to buy once you are in.

We publish it because a founder deciding whether to spend six thousand pounds should be able to find out what it costs without booking a call.

Annual lump sums and what they do to a decision

An annual fee paid up front is a bigger commitment than the same money paid monthly, and it changes how it feels to leave. If you join in January and it is not working by March, you have paid for nine months you will not use, so you stay, and the room gets someone who has checked out.

Monthly billing is not a gimmick. It means the membership has to keep earning its place, which is the right pressure to put on us rather than on you.

The comparison that actually matters

Not the headline number. What you should compare is cost per useful conversation.

Ten Forum meetings a year with six to eight founders who know your business properly is a lot of useful conversation. A larger, more prestigious network you attend twice because the diary never allows more is not, whatever it cost. Work out how often you will realistically show up, then divide.
